About
Christman Opera Company
In 2016, the Christman Opera Company's inaugural performance took place at the National Opera Center in New York City and featured a double bill of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Theodore Christman's third opera, Adriana McMannes. COC's second performance was of Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia and featured a reprise of Christman's one-act opera The Dreamer as a prelude. Christman's most recent opera, A Metamorphosis, was premiered by the COC in 2018. OperaWire named this performance one of the "Top 5 Operas to See" in North America. In 2019, it was announced that Christman and librettist Donna Gay Anderson had written a dramatic musical, Unfolded, about the life and work of Susie Scott Krabacher. Selections from the musical were premiered in COC's benefit concert for Krabacher's humanitarian organization, HaitiChildren.

The Christman Opera Company's newest initiative is Voices Raising Voices - a project that will highlight the work of a diverse group of musicians. COC is currently inviting composers who are people of color, women, and/or LGBTQIA+ to submit their vocal works to ChristmanOpera@gmail.com. In this time of social distancing, we're also looking for pianists to record the accompaniments. More information can be found in the UPCOMING section of this website.
